Thomas Sunn Pedersen is the Director of Stellarator Edge and Divertor Physics on the W7-X experiment and Professor of Physics at Greifswald University. He received his MSc in 1995 from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) where his thesis work focused on simulations of drift-wave turbulence. He received his PhD in 2000 from MIT, where he worked on soft x-ray measurements of edge impurity transport in the Alcator C-Mod tokamak. He then spent 11 years as a faculty member at Columbia University in New York where, among other activities, he built and operated the CNT stellarator together with undergraduate and graduate students. He moved to Greifswald, Germany in 2011 to become Director of Stellarator Edge and Divertor Physics on the W7-X experiment, and Professor of Physics at Greifswald University. Dr. Pedersen is a Scientific Fellow of the Max Planck Society and of the American Physical Society.
