Earl Scime is Professor of Physics and Astronomy at West Virginia University. Since 2002 he has served as Department Chair and from 2014-2015 he served as Interim Associate Vice President for Research. His research interests include experimental and theoretical plasma physics encompassing thermonuclear fusion plasmas, low temperature plasmas, space plasmas, and industrial plasmas. Dr. Scime is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and completed a postdoc at Los Alamos National Laboratory prior to joining the faculty of WVU. Dr. Scime also runs a statewide robotics program for middle and high school youth. In 2012, his work with youth robotics was recognized with the National Woodie Flowers Award, given to a single robotics coach worldwide.
